Welcome to 6th grade ELA & Literature!
SO MUCH FUN AT OUR GREEK GALA!
Greetings!
We are currently reading The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. During this study, we are also looking at mythology and the character traits of Greek gods and goddesses. The students are becoming experts! Ask your child who the God of War is? What about the Goddess of Love and Beauty. Students are really enjoying this text so far, and have taken a vow to NOT watch any of the Percy Jackson movies until they have completed the books. (I have the whole series in my room for interested readers; I imagine there will be quite a few).
We are also working on a spooky persuasive writing piece. Students have taken on the role of realtors and are trying to sell a haunted house. Students have determined some creepy amenities and potential buyers, and are in the drafting stage. Ask your students what extra, scary rooms and amenities they have set up in their haunted houses.
We are taking a break from vocabulary this week, but will start up again November 4. We are continuing our focus on Greek and Latin prefixes and root words as we continue reading about Greek mythology.
Thank you for checking in! Check back soon!
