Greetings!
It didn't take us long to get right back into the swing of the things after our Holiday Break. We are currently combining science and ELA in our study of the rainforest. Our classroom is transforming into a jungle. Thank you for the arts and craft donations. Please check out our Class Photo Gallery to see how these items are being (and will continue to be ) put to great use!
We received some great news this week! We will be visiting the Bronx Zoo as our end of the year field trip. We are studying our rainforest animals and facts extra hard to show them off when we see all of the animals at the zoo. Encourage your students to keep selling lots of fruit to offset the cost of this exciting trip.
We recently enjoyed a great field trip to Siena College to watch a women's basketball game. Although the Siena women weren't able to pull out the win, we really enjoyed getting to watch them on a college campus. We even got to watch one of the players who had come to talk to us at school. Pretty neat! There are some fun photos in our classroom gallery.
This week is Catholic School's Week. Lots of fun activities and events for our class to partake in. Your student should have brought home a letter detailing the events and theme of each day. Tomorrow Is School Spirit Day. The day will end with a Teachers Vs. Students game. Wish me luck! (I think I'm going to need it.)
Stay warm!
Miss Grimmick

Merry Christmas All! Hello all!
I apologize for the delay. It has been a very hectic few weeks! We have completed our first novel as a class, Esperanza Rising, by Pam Munoz Ryan, celebrated Thanksgiving as an entire school community, and have been practicing for our Christmas Concert (which is Thursday, Dec, 12). To prepare for Thanksgiving, we read Balloons Over Broadway, a biography of Tony Sarg, the man who created the first large balloons and blimps for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. We each cut out a balloon and wrote important facts about Sarg on them. Then, just for fun, I took a picture of each student trying their hardest to hang on to an imaginary balloon. The students were very creative, and I got some excellent shots of interesting poses and silly facial expressions. We then attached their balloon-fact to a piece of ribbon that they then "held" in their photo. It is making a great display outside of our classroom, and I will get a picture of it below! Prior to Thanksgiving Break, we presented our Book in a Bag Book Projects. These were so fun to watch! Students brought in very creative, memorable props (including pancakes and fuzzy socks!) to help us understand their books, and did a great job presenting without any notes. They are becoming excellent speakers! Over Thanksgiving Break, we completed our first novel. Though students were proud to complete it, I think many felt a little bit sad for it to be over. The class really enjoyed the novel! This week we composed and shared two-voice poems, and are preparing to write short skits based on our reading of the novel and our knowledge of Human Rights. Very busy students! Please check the important dates pages, as there are many events coming up in the month of December. I finally straightened out the photo gallery, so please check out all of the images posted! Thank you for your patience! Enjoy the beginnings of your holiday season! Miss Grimmick We had a BLAST at our schoolwide fall field trip on Wednesday. We picked pumpkins in the pumpkin patch, got lost in a 2 mile corn maze, jumped on a bouncy pillow, and much more. We even enjoyed fresh, delicious (or as the students would say, "scrumdiddlyumptious") apple cider and donuts! It was a great success. Special thanks to Mrs. Paul for donating her time and chaperoning our trip! See below for LOTS of pictures. |
