Hello all!
I apologize for the delay. It has been a very hectic few weeks! We have completed our first novel as a class, Esperanza Rising, by Pam Munoz Ryan, celebrated Thanksgiving as an entire school community, and have been practicing for our Christmas Concert (which is Thursday, Dec, 12). To prepare for Thanksgiving, we read Balloons Over Broadway, a biography of Tony Sarg, the man who created the first large balloons and blimps for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. We each cut out a balloon and wrote important facts about Sarg on them. Then, just for fun, I took a picture of each student trying their hardest to hang on to an imaginary balloon. The students were very creative, and I got some excellent shots of interesting poses and silly facial expressions. We then attached their balloon-fact to a piece of ribbon that they then "held" in their photo. It is making a great display outside of our classroom, and I will get a picture of it below! Prior to Thanksgiving Break, we presented our Book in a Bag Book Projects. These were so fun to watch! Students brought in very creative, memorable props (including pancakes and fuzzy socks!) to help us understand their books, and did a great job presenting without any notes. They are becoming excellent speakers! Over Thanksgiving Break, we completed our first novel. Though students were proud to complete it, I think many felt a little bit sad for it to be over. The class really enjoyed the novel! This week we composed and shared two-voice poems, and are preparing to write short skits based on our reading of the novel and our knowledge of Human Rights. Very busy students! Please check the important dates pages, as there are many events coming up in the month of December. I finally straightened out the photo gallery, so please check out all of the images posted! Thank you for your patience! Enjoy the beginnings of your holiday season! Miss Grimmick |
